A New Hope

The current state of our country is disarray. Diametrically opposed ideas on how to govern the people are literally split right down the middle. And as we’ve seen before in history one lone courageous man stands up, unafraid, and speaks actual sense.

And help us all he’s a Democrat. West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, the only voice of reason left in DC.

If you’ve watched any news lately the left is waging all out war against Mr. Manchin because he actually uses his brain. He has vowed to not eliminate the filibuster and a few days ago pledged that he would vote against the Democrat’s ridiculous HR 1 Voting “Rights” Bill aka the “Democrats can never lose an election again bill.”

Why? He says it quite simply: “I don’t think any legislation on voting that is passed in a partisan manner will instill any confidence in the process.” It really is that simple, isn ‘t it?

I particularly enjoyed his reminder to his fellow Democrats in his recent op-ed that they LOVED the filibuster not too long ago:

“As a reminder, just four short years ago, in 2017 when Republicans held control of the White House and Congress, President Donald Trump was publicly urging Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster. Then, it was Senate Democrats who were proudly defending the filibuster. Thirty-three Senate Democrats penned a letter to Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. and Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., warning of the perils of eliminating the filibuster,” he wrote.

He’s completely right. And it scares the hell out of me that out of 100 people in our Senate he’s the only one that publicly embraces it. Amazing how the hillbillies of West Virginia are literally holding the coastal elites by the balls right now. It’s great.

He ended his piece with a beautiful summary:

“Yes, this process can be frustrating and slow. It will force compromises that are not always ideal. But consider the alternative. Do we really want to live in an America where one party can dictate and demand everything and anything it wants, whenever it wants? I have always said, “If I can’t go home and explain it, I can’t vote for it.” And I cannot explain strictly partisan election reform or blowing up the Senate rules to expedite one party’s agenda.”

The truth is there is a better way – if we seek to find it together. God Speed to you sir, God Speed.
